Macron to Trump: Wage trade war with China, not Europe

French President Emmanuel Macron hopes that he has convinced Donald Trump not to wage trade wars against Europe and instead focus on China.
This is reported by Censor.NET with reference to Politico.
After meeting with Trump at the White House, the French leader said that he urged Trump not to wage a trade war against Europe.
"Come on, you can't have a trade war with China and Europe at the same time. I hope I convinced him," Macron said.
According to Macron, "Washington's priority is to impose tariffs on China," and simultaneously waging a trade war against Europe would be contrary to US interests.
"I told him: It is very important for you not to impose new tariffs," the French president said.
As reported earlier, US President Donald Trump intends to impose duties on products from the European Union.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that the EU could retaliate with tariffs if Donald Trump imposes duties on products from the European Union.
Afterward, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas said that the EU is closely monitoring Trump's statements about plans to impose tariffs on European goods.
