Trump seeks to end war and prevent Afghanistan scenario in Ukraine - WSJ

U.S. President Donald Trump

US President Donald Trump is afraid of a repeat of the situation in Ukraine, as it was during the war in Afghanistan, where the United States could reduce its support, which could lead to serious geopolitical consequences.

This is stated in the article of The Wall Street Journal, Censor.NET informs.

"Trump's universal strategy when he is frustrated is an eye for an eye. It satisfies his need to constantly dominate the news. Trump's bluster accusing Ukraine of not negotiating has escalated into something he clearly didn't mean, but now his team has to maintain that Ukraine is to blame for the war," the newspaper writes.

Trump's critics emphasize that his own policy toward Ukraine and NATO has contributed to the strengthening of Russia's position, in particular through his ambiguous statements about the Alliance.

According to journalists, Trump may not care about Ukraine (no president in 35 years has wanted the United States to be Ukraine's military guarantor - ed.), but it is important to him that the situation in Afghanistan does not repeat itself.

"Trump tends to launch his insulting attacks in direct proportion to how constrained he feels. That's exactly how he must feel right now. Ukraine has leverage over him, and so does Europe. It will not be easy for Putin. Biden's legacy to Trump means that he may still have to intervene on Ukraine's side. No wonder he's unhappy," the WSJ columnist said.

"In most cases, Trump is loud and offensive and then takes the path of least resistance. He wants to win, and he doesn't care how. Obviously, the United States will have to go through a lot of upheaval," the newspaper adds.

As a reminder, in 2021, the United States completed the withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan, which led to the Taliban's rapid return to power.

This was a major defeat for American politics and security, which had a negative impact on the US image in the international arena.
