US will try to return as much territory to Ukraine as possible, but it won’t be in NATO – Trump

US President Donald Trump

US President Donald Trump has said that Ukraine's accession to the North Atlantic Alliance will not happen.

He said this at a meeting with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Censor.NET reports citing Reuters.

Trump commented on Ukraine's aspiration to join NATO as a result of a peace agreement with Russia.

"We're going to certainly try and get as much as we can back, but on the NATO, it's just not going to happen," he said.

He also answered a question about whether Russia could be trusted to conclude a peace agreement.

I think we need to check because you never know what might happen. You said they would cheat someday and that they are the worst people in the world. But I know others who claim they’re 100% honest, yet they also cheat. So you never know what you’re going to get," the American president said.

On Wednesday, February 26, US President Donald Trump said that Ukraine can forget about NATO membership.
