The commander of the 1st Marine Battalion of the 37th Separate Marine Brigade, Senior Lieutenant Volodymyr Stohniy, call sign 'Zolotyi' (Golden), died in the fighting for Ukraine.

This was reported by the brigade and the rector of Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University Anatolii Tsos, Censor.NET reports.

As noted, Volodymyr Stohnii began his military career in 2015 and performed combat missions in the ATO sector, then the JFO. From the beginning of the large-scale invasion, he served in the ranks of the 60th Separate Mechanised Brigade, where he held the position of reconnaissance platoon commander.

The warrior personally participated in many heavy battles during the de-occupation of the right bank of the Kherson region and during the defence of the city of Bakhmut, repeatedly saved his comrades, carrying the wounded on his shoulders from the battlefield, and was also wounded during one of the numerous battles.

Later, he served in the 82nd Separate Airborne Assault Brigade as a reconnaissance company commander. In the autumn of 2024, he joined the 37th Brigade, temporarily acted as the commander of the 1st Marine Battalion, and then officially took up the position of commander.

"As a battalion commander, he repeatedly took part in battles side by side with his men, demonstrating his steely character, courage and setting an example for his men. He sincerely loved Ukraine, was proud to be a Ukrainian, was well versed in the culture and history of his native land, believed in our victory and made more than maximum efforts to bring this day closer," the 37th Brigade said about the fallen Hero.

According to the rector of the university, Volodymyr Stohnii died of severe wounds. He was a student of the university's Faculty of History, Political Science and National Security.
