Footballer and champion in horting Mykyta Kalin died in battles for Ukraine. PHOTO

A 23-year-old athlete and soldier Mykyta Kalin was killed while performing a combat mission in the Izium district of Kharkiv region.

This was reported by the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Youth and Sports, Censor.NET reports.

What is known about the fallen Hero?

The athlete was born on 25 July 2001 in Zhovti Vody, Dnipropetrovsk region. Later, he moved with his family to Brovary, Kyiv region, where he studied at school No. 9.

Sport has always played an important role in his life. From a young age, Mykyta played football. He played for Kolos (U17) in the Ukrainian Children's and Youth Football League championship and later represented teams from the Brovary district: Skif, IFC Brovary, Bohdanivka, and Favourite. In addition to 11-a-side football, he played futsal and represented Impulse, Avalon, and Best.

He also excelled in horting, a Ukrainian martial art. In 2021, he became the champion of Kyiv region.*

In July 2024, Mykyta voluntarily joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine and was a flamethrower operator of an assault unit. He died on 6 February 2025 during a combat mission near the village of Zelenyi Hai, Kharkiv region.

The fallen soldier is survived by his mother, brother and fiancée.

"Mykyta Kalin was a true patriot who glorified Ukraine both in sports arenas and on the battlefield. His life is an example of courage, strength of spirit and love for the Motherland," the Committee added.
