According to the case materials, the Russian FSB recruited this agent in 2024. Since then, the Ukrainian special service has been gradually documenting every step of the attacker and his interaction with Russian handlers. The SSU also used this "mole" to disinform the enemy in order to pass on information beneficial to Ukraine to the Russians through him.

As the investigation established, the agent was recruited by the FSB through his wife, who lives in Rostov-on-Don and cooperates with the occupiers. He agreed to cooperate with the enemy in exchange for money, and after his planned retirement in the summer of 2025, he planned to move to Russia.

Among the tasks set by the enemy for the mole was the collection and transmission of classified information that he possessed by virtue of his official duties. In particular, this included data on the locations of military-industrial facilities that manufacture navigation systems, backup points for strategic enterprises, military depots, as well as information on Ukraine's production of precision munitions and satellite imagery. According to available data, the Russian secret service hoped to use this information for air strikes on strategically important facilities in Ukraine.
