EU Council to consider issue of frozen Russian assets on March 12

Frozen assets of the Russian Federation

Tomorrow, March 12, the Council of the European Union plans to consider the issue of Russian assets frozen in connection with Russia's full-scale aggression against Ukraine.

According to Censor.NET, citing Interfax-Ukraine, this was announced by Adam Szlapka, Minister for European Affairs of the Polish presidency of the European Council, on Tuesday in Strasbourg during a plenary session of the European Parliament dedicated to the issue of European defense.

As noted, while discussing the issue of increasing Europe's defense capabilities and supporting Ukraine, some MEPs called for the use of frozen Russian assets in favor of Ukraine. Earlier, such proposals were made by some leaders of the European Union member states.

In response to these statements, the Polish minister said: "As for the frozen Russian assets, we will discuss this tomorrow."

Shlapka reminded that last year, G7 leaders agreed to use the proceeds from frozen Russian assets in the EU to repay $50 billion in loans to Ukraine from the EU and G7.

"The Council will consider all possible solutions in coordination with our international partners," he added.

It is also noted that currently there is no unified approach in the EU to the issue of further use of immobilized Russian assets.
