Britain helped Ukraine and US reach agreement in Saudi Arabia - BBC

Britain played an important role in the negotiations between Ukraine and the United States

The United Kingdom was "directly involved" in helping Ukraine and the United States reach a ceasefire agreement with Russia.

This was reported by the BBC, citing sources in the British government, Censor.NET reports.

According to the sources, over the past week, European countries, led by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, have been making joint efforts to restore the commitment of the United States and Ukraine to each other.

Starmer praised the "outstanding breakthrough‘ and called it ’an important moment for peace in Ukraine."
British sources say that last week, Jonathan Powell, the British Prime Minister's national security adviser, worked with his American counterpart

Mike Waltz, as well as representatives of Germany and France, on a ceasefire plan and next steps.

Over the weekend, Powell traveled to Kyiv to meet with Zelenskyy and "help put together a written proposal." It called for "a temporary pause in hostilities, followed by confidence-building measures such as prisoner-of-war exchanges, the return of Ukrainian children captured by Russia, and the release of civilians."

The publication writes that Ukraine and the United States agreed on this proposal, which became the basis for further negotiations in Saudi Arabia.

At the talks in Jeddah on March 11, Ukraine expressed its readiness to accept the US proposal to immediately introduce a temporary 30-day ceasefire. It can be extended by mutual agreement of the parties, subject to acceptance and simultaneous implementation by the Russian Federation.
