Rubio and Lavrov discuss further steps following talks in Saudi Arabia by phone
On 15 March 2025, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio had a telephone conversation with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

As noted, they discussed the next steps following their recent meetings in Saudi Arabia and agreed to continue working to restore communication between Washington and Moscow.
Rubio also briefed Lavrov on the US operation against the Houthis in Yemen.
"The Secretary of State briefed Russia on US operations to contain the Iranian-backed Houthis and stressed that they would not tolerate further Houthi attacks on US military and commercial vessels in the Red Sea," the statement said.
The Russian Foreign Ministry said that this conversation took place at the "initiative of the American side".
