EU on Trump’s shutdown of international media: This decision could play into hands of our common adversaries

The EU on the closure of international media

The European Union has commented on the decision of the US administration led by Donald Trump to stop funding Radio Liberty and the actual suspension of Voice of America broadcasting.

According to Censor.NET, citing European Pravda, this was stated by European Commission spokesperson Paula Pinho at a briefing in Brussels.

She noted that the EU considers these media as "beacons of truth, democracy and hope for millions of people around the world."

"And, of course, in an era of unmoderated content and fake news, journalism and freedom of the press... are crucial for democracy. And this decision risks playing into the hands of our common enemies," the spokesperson emphasized.

She also confirmed that EU foreign ministers will consider closing Radio Liberty and Voice of America.

Earlier, the White House put forward a number of criticisms of the Voice of America broadcaster and explained why US President Donald Trump decided to stop funding it.

What was the background?

In February, it was reported that Elon Musk, an American billionaire and special civil servant of the US Presidential Administration , wanted to close down the US state media outlets Radio Liberty and Voice of America.

As a reminder, on the morning of Saturday, March 15,Voice of America staff in the United States received an email from the HR department informing them that they had been placed on paid administrative leave.

Earlier it was reported that the US leader Donald Trump signed a decree that provides for the reduction of 7 federal agencies. This is part of the "reduction of federal bureaucracy".
