Ukraine’s readiness to cease fire is global test for Russia - Sybiha

Sybiha calls on Europe to restore stability in Syria

Ukraine has already demonstrated its readiness for a temporary ceasefire, now it is up to Russia to do the same.

This was stated by Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha at the ministerial-level panel discussion "The Peace Tableau: Actions and Aspirations" at the international conference "The Raisina Dialogue 2025" in New Delhi, Censor.NET reports citing the press center of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Ukrainian Foreign Minister informed the audience about the progress in the negotiations between the Ukrainian and American delegations, emphasizing that "Ukraine is the country that is most interested in achieving peace, just, lasting, comprehensive. We clearly show our readiness for a temporary ceasefire. But this is also a global test for Russia. It is time for it to show whether it really wants peace."

In this context, Sybiha quoted Vijaya Lakshmi Pandit, the first woman to serve as president of the UN General Assembly: "The more sweat we shed in peace, the less blood we shed in war."

He also emphasized that Ukraine is not an obstacle to peace.

"Achieving a just, comprehensive, lasting peace is also a global interest," he added.

The head of Ukrainian diplomacy emphasized that Ukraine has shown its full readiness, and the ball is now in Russia's court.

Let's see how the Russian side reacts to the ceasefire. Ukraine supported the US proposal for a temporary ceasefire for 30 days. We expect the Russian side to unconditionally agree to this proposal," the Foreign Minister added.

During the panel discussion, Andrii Sybiha also reminded the audience of the components of Ukraine's principled position: nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine and nothing about Europe without Europe; no compromises at the cost of Ukraine's territorial integrity or sovereignty, no restrictions on Ukraine's military potential; no third country has the right to block the choice of the Ukrainian people to participate in any alliances.

"We are counting on the support of the international community because it is about principles. It is about respecting the principle of territorial integrity and sovereignty, the UN Charter, and the restoration of a world order based on the rule of law," Sybiha emphasized.

As a reminder, on March 11, 2025, the delegations of the United States and Ukraine met in Jeddah.

The Ukrainian and US teams issued a joint statement following the meeting in Saudi Arabia: The US is resuming military assistance and will discuss the possibility of a 30-day ceasefire with Russia.

Russian dictator Vladimir Putin says that Russia has agreed to the proposals to end hostilities in Ukraine, but under certain conditions.

Trump called Kremlin dictator Vladimir Putin's statement about the possibility of a 30-day truce encouraging.
