Our goal is to establish strong and lasting peace, and this cannot be achieved without Ukraine at negotiating table – Macron

Emmanuel Macron on peace talks

French President Emmanuel Macron emphasized the need for peace talks only with the participation of Ukraine.

The French President said this during a joint statement with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on Tuesday, March 18,Interfax-Ukraine reports, Censor.NET informs.

The first steps are being taken, but the goal must remain unchanged: to achieve a strong and verifiable ceasefire, to launch detailed and comprehensive peace talks that will enable the establishment of a lasting and stable peace along with the necessary guarantees. This remains our objective," Macron said.

The French leader noted that "this goal cannot be achieved without the participation of Ukrainians at the negotiating table."

"We continue to support Ukraine, the Ukrainian army in its counteraction to Russian aggression," Macron said.

He added that he and Scholz would meet soon to continue working together, in particular to act together with Ukraine "for the sake of the sovereignty of our Ukrainian friends, but also for the defense and security of all of us Europeans."
