Germany sees no reason to lift EU sanctions against Russia - German government spokesman Hebestreit

Germany maintains EU sanctions against Russia

At this stage, Germany sees no reason to lift EU sanctions against Russia, particularly in the banking sector, regardless of what the United States and Russia may agree on.

This was stated by the spokesman of the German Federal Government Steffen Hebestreit, Censor.NET reports with reference to Ukrinform.

He noted that the European Union has its own position on sanctions, and these restrictions can be lifted only through a collective decision of European states after careful discussion.

"All sanctions imposed by Europe should be lifted by Europe. What the Americans discuss with the Russians is one thing, and what concerns Europe is another. I don't see any reason why Europe should lift its sanctions now," Gebestreit emphasized.

He also emphasized that the sanctions imposed by the European Union were reaffirmed during the recent EU summit and remain in force.

German Foreign Ministry spokesperson Christian Wagner clarified that the restrictions do not apply to the supply of Russian grain or fertilizers. Wagner noted that this is just Russian propaganda spreading information about sanctions that do not actually exist. However, there are measures that restrict bank processing for Russia.
