Poland is trying to persuade Hungary to open talks on Ukraine’s accession to EU, - Minister Szłapka

Poland is preparing another package of military aid to Ukraine

The Polish presidency of the EU is negotiating with Hungary to open the first negotiation cluster on Ukraine's membership in the European Union in the first half of 2024.

This was stated by Adam Szłapka, Minister for EU Affairs in the Polish government, Censor.NET reports citing Ukrinform.

"During the Polish presidency, support for Ukraine continues all the time, the next tranches of aid are transferred. We are also trying to move forward with the enlargement. We are always trying to persuade our partners, especially our Hungarian partners, so that the first negotiation cluster can be opened during the Polish presidency," he emphasized.

In addition, Poland considers continuing the sanctions policy against Russia to be an important task. In January, all 15 sanctions packages were extended, and the 16th package was adopted, which includes restrictions on imports of Russian aluminum and sanctions against more than 2,000 individuals and 500 companies.

Among the other achievements of the Polish presidency, Szłapka mentioned the inclusion of the Shield East defense project in the EU's White Paper, the allocation of almost €2 billion in aid to Moldova, and the fight against disinformation through the Democratic Shield initiative.
