Agreement on minerals should be in line with European legislation - Baerbock

Agreement on minerals with the United States. What the EU say

German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock said that a potential agreement on minerals between the United States and Ukraine must comply with European law.

This is reported by Censor.NET with reference to Sky News.

According to her, any agreements with Ukraine on minerals must be compatible with European law.

Baerbock said that Europe has already agreed with Ukraine that any new agreement must be compatible with European Union law.

"After all, this is our European continent," the minister added.

As previously reported, the current version of the minerals agreement is unfavorable for Ukraine, so Kyiv will ask the United States to make changes.

Earlier, Yaroslav Zhelezniak, a member of the Voice party and deputy chairman of the Verkhovna Rada's Tax Committee, said that the United States had handed over a new draft of the minerals agreement to Ukraine, which must be ratified by the Verkhovna Rada.

In his opinion, this option is unfavorable for Ukraine.

According to media reports, Donald Trump's administration has returned to the fossil fuel agreement the requirement to reimburse all the assistance the United States has provided to Ukraine since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion in 2022.
