Britain will respond to Trump tariffs with ’cool head’ - Starmer

Starmer wants to ensure Ukraine has stronger position in 2025

The tariffs announced by US President Donald Trump will "obviously" have consequences for the economy, but the UK will react in a balanced manner.

This was stated by the Prime Minister of the country, Keir Starmer, Censor.NET reports with reference to The Guardian.

He emphasized that the British government will make decisions based solely on national interests and is ready to consider all possible retaliatory measures.

"This government will do whatever is necessary to protect the UK's national interests, whatever is necessary to provide the security that working people need to get on with their lives. That's how we have acted and will continue to act: with pragmatism, coolness and calm, focusing on our national security," Starmer said.

Trump imposes tariffs

As a reminder, Trump has signed a decree imposing a minimum 10 percent tariff on almost all goods entering the United States. For some countries, the tariffs are higher. In particular, China - 34%, the European Union - 20%.

Later it became known that Trump had declared a state of emergency in the country's economy.
