Russian special envoy Dmitriev: Trump administration recognises Putin’s position on NATO for Ukraine. This is impossible

Kirill Dmitriev

During his visit to Washington, Putin's envoy Kirill Dmitriev said that the administration of US President Donald Trump had "widely accepted" the Kremlin's position that Ukraine cannot join NATO.

He said this in an interview with the American TV channel Fox News, Censor.NET reports.

When asked by a journalist whether there could be security guarantees for Ukraine acceptable to Moscow, Dmitriev replied: "I think that Ukraine's joining NATO, as our president said, is not at all possible. And I think this has been widely accepted, including by the Trump administration."

At the same time, he noted that "some security guarantees in a some form" may be acceptable to Russia.

In the conversation, Dmitriev also added that Vladimir Putin "wants a permanent peace in Ukraine" and had previously "said what some of those conditions are" for achieving it. He did not specify which conditions he was talking about.

In addition, the Russian representative was asked whether Russia would launch military aggression against other countries in the event of a peace agreement on Ukraine.

"There are a lot of false and fake narratives, circulating, such as Russia possibly going into Europe. I mean that's just a crazy idea. And the problem is that there are a lot of crazy people, and they discuss it together... I think that President Trump is very realistic, and he knows it is not going to happen," Dmitriev said.
