Russia is considering the possibility of restoring relations with the United States with "cautious optimism" following the visit of Kirill Dmitriev, special envoy of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, to Washington.

This was stated by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov during a briefing, according to Russian media, Censor.NET reports.

Peskov said that talks are ongoing through "various channels."

"There is cautious optimism. The work is being carried out meticulously, through different channels. Contacts like those made by Kirill Dmitriev are extremely important. This work will continue," Peskov said.

At the same time, he commented on Dmitriev's statement about possible security guarantees for Ukraine, emphasizing that it is too early to talk about "specific parameters."

"This is a complex topic that definitely needs to be discussed. But it is impossible to name any specific parameters at the moment," Putin's spokesman added.

Earlier, Putin's envoy Kirill Dmitriev said during his visit to Washington that the administration of US President Donald Trump "widely recognizes" the Kremlin's position that Ukraine cannot join NATO.

The day before, the special representatives of Presidents Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, Steve Vitkoff and Kirill Dmitriev, held their first meeting in Washington, D.C., the first visit of a senior Russian official to the United States since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
