President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that Ukrainian troops are not only in the Kursk region of the Russian Federation. The Armed Forces are in control of the situation and are not surrounded.

He said this during a briefing for the media broadcast by Suspilne, Censor.NET reports.

"There is no encirclement in the Kursk region. We are present not only in the Kursk region. We control the situation. We are currently holding 64 thousand Russians in the Kursk region. Our guys are doing a great job," he said.

According to the Head of State, Russian forces want to completely push Ukrainian troops out of the Kursk region.

"It’s clear that they [the occupiers] want to do everything possible. Of course, they have symbolic dates — next month, in particular — when they want to present certain so-called victories. But for now, we are in control of the situation. We are there, and it is very important for us," Zelenskyy said.

Regarding the Russian force, he added: "This is a very serious group that could have been deployed elsewhere and could have attacked us from other directions along the entire front line."

According to media reports, Ukrainian troops have broken through Russia's first line of defense in the Belgorod region, advancing 3-4 kilometers deep. Heavy fighting continues near the village of Popovka, where drones are used for shelling.
