EU still lacks clarity on necessary forces to guarantee Ukraine’s security - Kallas

Kallas on discussions on Ukraine’s security

The head of the European Union's diplomacy, Kaja Kallas, said that the question of what specific forces are needed to guarantee Ukraine's security is still not clearly defined.

According to Censor.NET, this was reported by The Guardian.

When asked whether Kallas had received the clarity she needed yesterday on what any measures to reassure Ukraine would consist of, she replied: "No".

"As I said, different member states have different opinions and discussions are still ongoing," she added.

At the same time, Kallas emphasized the importance of increasing pressure on Russia.

"It's been four weeks since Ukraine agreed to an unconditional ceasefire, and we don't see any positive signals from the Russian side. So we really need to put pressure on Russia, and I think it's about putting trust in all those who have said that we need the killings to stop," Kallas said.

As a reminder, the "Coalition of the Willing" led by the UK and France, designed to help secure Ukraine after a possible ceasefire with Russia, risks reaching a deadlock after failing to receive firm commitments from the US to provide security guarantees.
