16 years in high-security colony: for first time in Russia, military man is tried for voluntarily surrendering to Armed Forces of Ukraine

In Russia, the state prosecution has requested 16 years in a maximum security colony for Russian serviceman Roman Ivanishin, who is accused of voluntary surrender to the Ukrainian Armed Forces for the first time in Russia.
This was reported by Censor.NET with reference to the Mediaphone publication.
As noted, Ivanyshyn is also accused of desertion and attempted voluntary surrender.
Originally from Sakhalin, he joined the army after mobilisation and was taken prisoner by Ukraine on 10 June 2023 near the village of Stepove, Donetsk region. He returned to Russia in early January 2024 as part of an exchange and was put under investigation.
The prosecution claims that Ivanyshyn twice tried to surrender to Ukrainian captivity. On the second attempt, he managed to escape from the territory of the military unit.
Ivanyshyn's commander, Major Vadym Korotkevych, also claimed that after surrendering, his subordinate came out of Ukrainian positions and shouted to his colleagues: "Surrender, you will not be punished for this!" According to him, he ordered to open fire on Ivanyshyn. The Ukrainians returned fire and killed two Russian soldiers.
Ivanyshyn himself has pleaded not guilty. The defence insists that the crimes he is charged with have not been proven.
