Peskov on Merz’s intention to supply Taurus missiles to Ukraine: This will lead to escalation of war

Peskov

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov criticized Germany’s future chancellor Friedrich Merz over his remarks about a possible transfer of long-range Taurus missiles to Ukraine, stating that such a move would lead to escalation.

This was reported by Censor.NET, citing Interfax.

Peskov accused Merz of "leaning toward escalation" and emphasized that such statements only further complicate the situation around Ukraine.

"Judging by Mr. Merz’s statements, he supports strengthening positions and endorses various steps that are capable of and will inevitably lead only to further escalation of the situation around Ukraine," Peskov said.

He also accused European capitals of lacking the will to engage in peace talks.

"Unfortunately, it is true that European capitals are not inclined to seek ways to enter peace negotiations, but rather tend to provoke the continuation of the war," the Kremlin spokesperson stated.

As a reminder, Friedrich Merz, the likely future chancellor of Germany, said he had always been ready to support the transfer of Taurus missiles to Ukraine — provided that such deliveries are coordinated with Germany’s European partners.
