Araghchi to travel to Moscow ahead of second round of nuclear talks with US

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi will visit Russia on the eve of the second round of talks between Tehran and Washington on Iran's nuclear program. The Iranian minister's visit to Russia will take place this week.

This is reported by Reuters, Censor.NET informs.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry said that Araghchi "will discuss the latest developments related to the Oman talks with Russian officials."

Reuters notes that on April 12, Araghchi and US President Donald Trump's Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff held the first round of talks in Oman, with Omani envoy Badr al-Busaidi acting as a mediator. The delegations sat in separate rooms in a palace in Muscat.

Both sides said the talks were "constructive." However, according to Reuters, citing an unnamed senior Iranian official, the meeting "was only aimed at setting the stage for possible future talks."

The agency also adds that Russia is a party to the 2015 Iran nuclear deal and supports Tehran's right to have a civilian nuclear program.

Earlier it was reported that Italy agreed to hold the next round of negotiations on the nuclear deal between the United States and Iran.
