Russia will not be able to open second front in Iran due to lack of resources, – Forbes

Russia does not have the strength for war in Iran and the opening of a second front

Russia is unlikely to send its troops to Iran to take part in a potential conflict against the United States and Israel, as it lacks the resources to open a second front.

According to Censor.NET, this is reported by Forbes.

The article notes that despite the intensification of military cooperation between Moscow and Tehran, most experts in the U.S. and the United Kingdom doubt the likelihood of Russian troops directly participating in combat operations in the Middle East.

Why is this unlikely?

According to experts, the Russian military is currently focused on the war against Ukraine and does not have sufficient resources or personnel to open another major front.

It is also noted that direct involvement in the war in Iran would create the risk of a direct confrontation with U.S. forces and their allies, which could lead to an uncontrolled escalation.

What role might Russia play?

At the same time, analysts suggest that Russia may continue to support Iran in other ways—specifically through the supply of technology, intelligence assistance, or participation in hybrid operations.

In their view, such actions allow Moscow to influence the situation in the region without direct military intervention or significant expenditure of resources.

Context

Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Russia is stepping up its cooperation with Iran and that it cannot be ruled out that the Kremlin might be considering sending troops to the region.

However, experts point out that in practice, such a scenario seems unlikely due to Russia’s limited capabilities and the high risks of a global escalation.
