Poland plans to buy laser air defense systems to counter drones – media

Poland is considering the purchase of laser air defense systems capable of effectively destroying drones and other aerial targets.
Digi24 reported this, Censor.NET informs.
According to the outlet, the Polish Armament Agency has launched a market analysis to assess available next-generation laser weapon technologies.
What systems are planned for purchase
In particular, Warsaw is considering the procurement of two types of laser systems. The first would have a range of up to 1 kilometre, while the second would have a range of up to 3 kilometres.
These systems are expected to be universal and capable of integration into various military platforms, both land-based (wheeled and tracked) and naval.
What is known about the process
The Polish Armament Agency will accept proposals from potential suppliers until 30 April, with the possibility of extending the deadline.
The formal procurement process may be announced later, after the analysis is completed.
Why Poland is strengthening its defence
The report says this move is part of a broader strategy to modernise Poland’s armed forces following Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
The country is currently spending about 5% of its GDP on defence, one of the highest levels among NATO member states.
