2,269 servicemen killed defending Ukraine from Russian aggression, - Poroshenko
President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said that 2,269 soldiers have been killed since the beginning of the anti-terrorist operation (ATO).
The president said during the "lesson of courage" he held in the Kyiv Military Lyceum named after Ivan Bohun, Censor.NET reports citing Ukrainski Novyny.
"2,269 military were killed defending Ukraine from the Russian aggression," he said.
Petro Poroshenko called on the audience to observe a moment of silence in tribute to the memory of the heroes of Kruty and servicemen killed in the ATO.
The Ukrainian president also noted that 121,000 military of the Armed Forces of Ukraine have been granted the status of combatants, about 10,000 servicemen have been decorated with orders and medals, Ukrainska Pravda informs.
He stressed that today's combat capability of the Ukrainian army has substantially increased compared to 2014.
