Ukraine ready for drone cooperation with Japan, Sybiha says

Kyiv is considering the possibility of cooperation with Tokyo in the field of drones, utilizing its battlefield experience for partnership.

Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha stated this in an interview with Kyodo News, Censor.NET reports.

"Ukraine is ready to share with Japan our experience gained on the battlefield; Kyiv is open to interaction based on the level of readiness of the Japanese side," Sybiha noted.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine stated that Kyiv is interested in continuing active political dialogue with Japan at the highest level. Specifically, Ukraine is considering the possibility of a meeting between President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi during the G7 summit in June, which will take place in France.

The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also announced plans to visit Japan in the second half of the year. According to him, Kyiv views Tokyo as an important partner in matters of security, recovery, and technological cooperation.

Ukraine emphasizes the necessity of maintaining and developing political dialogue with Japan, particularly at the level of heads of state and government.

Warning regarding U.S. sanctions policy

Separately, the Minister commented on global energy risks amid concerns over a potential oil shortage due to tensions in the Middle East.

He warned against the introduction of temporary exemptions from sanctions against Russian oil by the U.S., emphasizing that easing the pressure could have negative consequences for the effectiveness of the sanctions policy.

"Now is not the time to weaken the pressure on Russia. Any decisions regarding the easing or lifting of sanction pressure on Russia are erroneous, and they slow down peace efforts and the peace process," said Sybiha, calling the U.S. role in achieving peace "decisive."
