Without reform, SBI and Prosecutor General’s Office, we have no chance of joining the EU, - Shabunin

Ukraine needs reforms of the SBI and the OPG: Shabunin’s statement

Ukraine will have no chance of joining the European Union without reforming the State Bureau of Investigation and the Office of the Prosecutor General.

This was stated by Vitalii Shabunin, chairman of the board of the AntAC, in an interview with Censor.NET.

According to him, in less than ten years, Ukraine has managed to build effective law enforcement agencies that are catching up to the inner circle—the president’s "right hand."

"The FBI in the U.S. is currently incapable of achieving the results that NABU is demonstrating. In other words, we, as a society, created and then defended institutions that are tougher than the FBI! We have something to be proud of! And it wasn’t the government that created them—it was us. Now we need to do with the SBI, the Prosecutor General’s Office, and the corruption wing of the SSU exactly the same thing we did with NABU and the SAPO. There’s no need to reinvent the wheel," Shabunin explained.

He also noted that this is already stipulated in the European Union’s requirements.

"As for the SSU—that’s a different story. I mean, it’s very simple! If we, as a society, don’t force, convince, or persuade Zelenskyy, his deputies, Arakhamia, Budanov, and that whole crew to reform the SBI and the Prosecutor General’s Office, then we have no chance of joining the European Union. We won’t even receive the next tranches of aid. Does Zelenskyy’s team understand this? Yes. They are currently trying to persuade the EU to compromise on these standards. They will do anything to avoid reforming the Prosecutor General’s Office and the State Bureau of Investigation," Shabunin added.
