A Ukrainian F-16 fighter jet flew through Polish territory on the evening of August 20 and likely headed to Vojens Air Base in Denmark. The reason for the flight is currently unknown.

As Censor.NET reports, citing Defence24, the aircraft entered Polish airspace after 8:00 p.m. and did not transmit precise identification data through air traffic tracking services.

Fighter jet headed toward Denmark

According to the outlet, the aircraft was flying at an altitude of about 9,000 meters in a northwesterly direction. Witnesses believe it was an F-16.

The aircraft’s route also indicated this, with Vojens Air Base in Denmark listed as its destination. Defence24 suggests that it was one of the former Danish fighter jets transferred to Ukraine as part of the fighter jet coalition.

No official explanation has been given as to why the Ukrainian F-16 returned to Denmark. According to one theory, the fighter jet may have been sent for maintenance or repairs, after which it is expected to return to Ukraine.

Ukraine receives F-16s from European partners

Ukraine received its first F-16 fighter jets in the summer of 2024. Denmark, the Netherlands, Norway and Belgium pledged to provide aircraft to Kyiv.

According to publicly available information, Denmark announced that it would transfer 19 fighter jets to Ukraine, while the Netherlands pledged 24. Belgium plans to provide about 50 aircraft, although deliveries are expected to take several years and depend on the Belgian Air Force’s transition to the F-35.
