On the night of August 22, 2026, the enemy attacked Ukraine with missiles that follow a ballistic trajectory—including Iskander-M and S-400 missiles, three Kh-31P/ Kh-59 from the Kursk, Bryansk, and Belgorod regions and from the airspace over the Black Sea, as well as "Banderols" loitering munitions and 217 Shahed-type strike UAVs (more than 50 of which are jet-powered), Gerber, and "Parody"-type decoy drones.

This was reported by Censor.NET, citing the press office of the Air Force Command.

Where did the enemy aim?

As noted, the main focus of the attack is Kyiv and Odesa regions!

The air attack was repelled by the Ukrainian Air Force, anti-aircraft missile units, electronic warfare and unmanned systems units, and mobile fire groups of the Ukrainian Defense Forces.

How did our air defense system perform?

According to preliminary data, as of 9:00 a.m., air defense forces shot down or intercepted 3 Kh-31P/Kh-59 air-to-ground missiles, 6 "Banderols" loitering munitions, and 182 enemy UAVs of the Shahed and Gerber types, as well as other types of drones, in the north, south, east, and center of the country.

Enemy airstrikes were recorded at 41 locations, and debris from downed aircraft was found at 12 locations.

"The attack is ongoing; there are several enemy UAVs in the airspace. Follow safety guidelines!" the Air Force emphasizes.

What led up to this?

  • As a result of a Russian ballistic missile strike on the night of August 22 in the Darnytskyi district of Kyiv, a fire broke out in a warehouse. One person was killed and others were injured.
  • It later emerged that Russia attacked the railway in Kyiv and the Odesa region: a foreman was killed in Darnytsia, and the train station in Rozdilna was damaged.
