Ukraine and Britain sign historic artificial intelligence agreement
Ukraine and the United Kingdom signed an agreement on August 24 to cooperate in artificial intelligence to develop new military capabilities and technologies of the future.
According to Censor.NET, this was announced by the British government.
London described the agreement as historic and a key part of the 100 Year Partnership between Ukraine and the United Kingdom.
The document was signed in Ukraine by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and British Prime Minister Andy Burnham.
Battlefield data to underpin new technologies
Under the agreement, the United Kingdom will gain access to the database of Ukraine’s Avengers AI Labs platform to train new AI models.
The platform contains real-world data and analysis collected by thousands of daylight cameras and infrared sensors on the battlefield in Ukraine.
These systems detect millions of objects, including tanks, artillery, air defence systems, infantry and aerial targets.
These include Shahed drones and reconnaissance UAVs. The collected data is transmitted to Avengers AI Labs to train new artificial intelligence models.
"This groundbreaking partnership will combine Ukraine’s unrivalled combat experience with the UK’s world-class artificial intelligence ecosystem," Andy Burnham said.
British startups launch joint projects
Several pilot projects involving three British startups were also launched under the agreement: Bristol-based Sintela, Oxford-based Mind Foundry and London-based Skyral.
The British government said that Avengers AI Labs would give researchers and innovators access to real-world operational battlefield data.
In turn, the United Kingdom will provide Ukraine with support from its universities, researchers and technology companies. Ukraine will be able to draw on British expertise to develop solutions to urgent challenges more quickly.
British Defence Secretary Wes Streeting said that combining the United Kingdom’s scientific and technological capabilities with Ukraine’s combat experience and data should strengthen the defence and security of both countries.
Earlier, British Defence Secretary Luke Pollard said that the decision on holding elections in Ukraine should be made by the Ukrainian authorities and society, citing Britain’s experience during the Second World War.
