Sikorski warned Russia of NATO response in event of attack: "We will respond both defensively and offensively"
Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski stated that he personally warned the Russian side about the possible consequences of aggression against NATO. According to him, the Alliance has more combat aircraft than Russia, and in the event of an attack, it will not limit itself to defensive actions.
As reported by Censor.NET, Sikorski made these remarks on the program Front Sikorskiego.
"I told the Russians—also as a deterrent—to be careful, because we have more fighter jets than you do. So if you do something that no one wants, we won’t just sit back and do nothing—we will respond both defensively and offensively," said the Polish foreign minister.
Sikorski cited the example of Ukraine’s strikes on Russian oil refineries
The minister also mentioned Ukraine’s strikes on Russian oil refineries. According to his estimate, Ukraine has destroyed between 30% and 40% of Russia’s oil refining capacity.
Sikorski noted that this has already created logistical difficulties for Russia’s civilian economy and military logistics.
At the same time, he pointed out that Ukraine achieved this result with virtually no combat aircraft capable of operating over Russian territory. According to the Polish minister, the capabilities of NATO air forces are significantly greater.
Sikorski also stated that strikes on oil refineries may be permissible under international law if they target legitimate military objectives.
According to him, attacks on the civilian population, on the other hand, do not necessarily produce the desired effect. Sikorski noted that, historically, terror against civilians can contribute to the consolidation of society rather than its demoralization.
