Vance on prospects for ending Russia’s war against Ukraine: It is just matter of time
US Vice President JD Vance said that Russia’s war against Ukraine remains the most difficult international conflict to resolve but expressed confidence that it would ultimately end.
He told reporters this as he departed for New York, where the UN General Assembly is beginning, Censor.NET reports.
On the difficulty of the war and prospects for ending it
Asked whether he was optimistic about peace talks concerning Ukraine or Iran at the UN this week, Vance said he was always optimistic about making progress. According to him, Donald Trump has repeatedly stressed that Russia’s war against Ukraine has proved the most difficult international conflict to resolve.
"This is a difficult matter to resolve, no doubt about it, but I would rather work for a president who has vigorously tried to solve the problem and continues working on it. Do I believe it will ultimately be resolved? Yes. It is just a matter of time," Vance said.
On the planned Trump-Zelenskyy meeting
- The vice president also confirmed that Trump was due to meet Volodymyr Zelenskyy in the coming days.
"I think he will meet President Zelenskyy tomorrow or the day after. So I am confident that good progress will be made," Vance added.
On fuel prices amid Iran’s actions
Reporters also asked Vance about record-high diesel prices in the United States, exceeding $6 per gallon. Vance explained that the administration recognised that energy prices had risen because Iran was "terrorising international shipping."
According to him, the authorities are trying both to curb price increases and provide Americans with temporary relief. In particular, the US president discussed the possibility of encouraging individual states to reduce petrol taxes.
"We all have to recognise that as long as the Iranians are trying to terrorise international shipping, we will, of course, try to counter it," the official added.
