Zelenskyy: Meeting Putin would be "not best day of my life," but I am ready to do it for peace
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he was ready to meet Russian dictator Vladimir Putin to end the Russian-Ukrainian war.
He said this in an interview with CBC News, Censor.NET reports.
On his readiness to meet
Asked how he felt about the prospect of speaking with Putin face to face, the president replied that it was normal for him, although it was not something he wanted.
"Sitting opposite Putin will not be the best day of my life. But I will do it to bring peace closer. I would rather sit with my family. One hundred per cent," Zelenskyy said, adding that he was ready to do it because Putin was, of course, his enemy.
- The head of state explained that sitting down with an enemy made sense only to achieve a result that would bring peace closer. According to him, he knows Putin’s true objective well.
"I know that this person wants to occupy us completely, and he will do it if we are not strong enough, if the world is divided and if I do not have security guarantees," Zelenskyy said.
On security guarantees
Explaining what security guarantees meant to him, the Ukrainian president said they meant not having to fear that Putin would occupy Ukraine the next day, since he would never change his objective.
"He will never change his objective. Never," Zelenskyy stressed.
