There are 24,680 residents remaining in the Sloviansk community in Donetsk Oblast, including 1,775 children. Over the past week, around 600 people have left the community, although the pace of evacuation has slowed in recent days.
This was reported by Vadym Liakh, head of the Sloviansk City Military Administration, according to Censor.NET.
It is noted that some residents left the community following an intensification of Russian shelling, whilst others are currently monitoring the situation. A further increase in the number of people wishing to evacuate is expected as the weather turns colder, and also depending on the stability of gas and electricity supplies.
Russian shelling of Sloviansk
Late in the evening of 20 September, Russian troops attacked a high-rise block in Sloviansk. The body of a 40-year-old man was recovered from the rubble of the building.
Another person was injured during Russian shelling on 21 September at around 3.00 pm. Over the past 24 hours, a high-rise block, a medical facility, private homes and cars have been damaged as a result of enemy strikes.
Medical facilities, shops and utility services are operating in the community
In Sloviansk, medical facilities, utility services, banks, shops and pharmacies continue to operate. Mobile phone coverage and internet access are available in the city. Some organisations are reducing the number of branches, but essential services remain available.
Public transport is not running in all areas. Rescue workers and medics travel to remote neighbourhoods near the front line in armoured vehicles, which are also used to evacuate people.
According to Liakh’s estimate, around 95 per cent of residents have electricity, water and gas. There is no electricity supply on some streets, where power engineers are carrying out repair work.
Registration for winter support is by appointment only, via the Administrative Service Centre and social workers. Mobile registration sessions in remote areas are also planned for this week.
