Putin is ready for new meeting with Trump – Peskov
The Kremlin stated that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin is ready for another meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made this statement, according to Censor.NET, citing Russian media.
What Peskov Said
"Putin remains ready for another meeting with Trump," Peskov said.
At the same time, he added that there are no specific details about this meeting yet.
The Meeting Between Zelenskyy and Putin
In addition, the Russian dictator's spokesperson reiterated that Russia's position on the possibility of a meeting between Putin and Zelenskyy is well known—if he wishes, "he can come to Moscow."
According to Peskov, holding a meeting between Putin and Zelenskyy before work has been done at the expert level is "inappropriate; it would be a waste of time."
Peace talks
Peskov also stated that there are currently no preconditions for moving toward a peaceful track in the negotiations on Ukraine, although Russia allegedly "remains open to them."
A spokesperson for the Russian dictator also stated that "countries in Europe are trying to find new funds to purchase weapons" for Ukraine and accused the leaders of Britain, Germany, France, and other European countries of "stoking anti-Russian sentiment."
What led up to this?
As a reminder, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that Russian dictator Putin is ready for another meeting, but he is not sure whether it will take place in Miami on the sidelines of the G20. Trump’s statement came on the eve of the opening of the UN General Assembly, where several related meetings are scheduled for this week.
- Vice President J.D. Vance confirmed that Trump's meeting with Volodymyr Zelenskyy is expected to take place on September 22 or 23 and expressed cautious optimism about progress, although he described Russia's war against Ukraine as "the most difficult of international conflicts" to resolve.
- Trump's comment came immediately after Zelenskyy stated in an interview with CBC News that he was ready to meet with Putin to bring about peace, and also outlined a condition for de-escalation: Ukraine would cease its strikes on Russian oil refineries only in response to a similar move by Moscow.
- Meanwhile, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio publicly called for a separate "energy truce" between the parties.
