Zelenskyy recounts conversation with Trump: We talked about almost everything
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy discussed an energy ceasefire, winter aid packages and sanctions against Russia during his latest meeting with US President Donald Trump.
Zelenskyy said this in an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Censor.NET reports.
Zelenskyy describes key topics of conversation with Trump
Zelenskyy said the meeting gave him an opportunity to talk with Trump about almost everything. The topics included winter aid packages, an energy ceasefire, food security, bringing peace closer, and protecting Ukraine’s population.
Asked whether Trump had requested an end to attacks on Russian oil refineries, Zelenskyy replied: "Not today – yes."
According to the president, the issue comes up from time to time. It becomes more pressing when shortages arise.
"We must be strong and show Putin that he is not alone on this planet, even if that is his dream," Zelenskyy said.
The president also said they had not discussed diesel fuel prices during the meeting. They had, however, raised the issue in their phone calls.
Ukraine ready for an energy ceasefire
Zelenskyy said an energy ceasefire was necessary for Ukraine to stop strikes on Russian oil refineries.
He also explained Ukraine’s position on energy prices.
"I said, ‘Listen, perhaps this matters to some people, but for us, lives matter more than energy prices,’" the president said.
According to Zelenskyy, shipments through the Strait of Hormuz are affected, but those are not shipments from Russia.
The president also confirmed that he and Trump had discussed sanctions against Russia.
Zelenskyy said Putin must understand that if Russia attacks Ukraine, it will face a response.
