A majority of Ukrainians – 62% – said they were ready to endure the war for as long as necessary. Another 4% were prepared for it to continue for a year, while 23% cited a period of a few months or six months.
According to Censor.NET, these are the findings of a survey conducted by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS) on September 12–21, 2026.
According to the sociologists, 11% of respondents could not say how much longer they were prepared to endure the war.
Ukrainians' views have remained virtually unchanged compared with the survey conducted in late July and early August.
Among Kyiv residents, 72% said they were ready to endure the war for as long as necessary. The figure was 69% in the previous survey, but KIIS noted that the difference was within the statistical margin of error.
In every region of Ukraine, at least half of respondents were ready to endure the war for as long as necessary. No significant changes were recorded at the regional level compared with late July and early August.
The sociologists pointed out that the survey was conducted after Russia began actively using jet-powered drones.
"In other words, (these attacks - ed.note), at least as of September 12–21, had not demoralized the population. At the same time, the survey was completed before the strikes on bridges across the Dnipro began," KIIS noted.
Survey methodology
KIIS conducted telephone interviews with 1,002 adult Ukrainian citizens living in territory controlled by the Ukrainian government.
The survey did not cover residents of temporarily occupied territories or citizens who had moved abroad after February 24, 2022. However, the sample included internally displaced persons.
Under normal circumstances, the maximum statistical margin of error for figures close to 50% does not exceed 4.1 percentage points. KIIS noted that wartime conditions may introduce systematic biases in addition to the formal margin of error.
