Russian army ’presented’ Putin with building destroyed in Pryluky as birthday ’gift’. Ballistics is biggest challenge for air defence, - Zelenskyy. PHOTOS
On the night of 7 October, Russian forces launched a massive attack on Ukrainian territory, firing 70 missiles and drones, with energy infrastructure as their main target.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported this on his Telegram channel, according to Censor.NET.
Casualties of the Russian attack
"Today, on Putin’s birthday, the Russian army ‘gifted’ him the destruction of a residential block in Pryluky, in the Chernihiv region. It was an ordinary five-storey block of flats. Unfortunately, as of now, five people are known to have died and 26 have been injured, including five children. There may still be people trapped under the rubble. Rescue workers are working non-stop at the scene – doing everything they can to find every single person," the head of state said.
He noted that five more apartment blocks in Dnipro and four high-rise buildings in Kremenchuk were damaged by Russian missile strikes. Unfortunately, two people were killed and eight were injured. A high-rise building in Zaporizhzhia was damaged by a drone. In Kyiv, the Russians killed two people. Two more people were killed in Oleksandriia.
As Zelenskyy emphasised, infrastructure in Kyiv and 12 regions came under attack last night.
Where did the enemy strike?
One of the key targets of today’s attack was our energy sector.
"The Russians wanted to strike a painful and demonstrative blow. It was one of the most despicable attacks: a total of 70 missiles, many ballistic missiles, as well as ‘Shaheds’. Unfortunately, we only managed to shoot down some of them. Russian ballistic missiles remain the greatest challenge. And air defence systems are now a matter of life and death for us. That is precisely why we are searching every day for missiles for the ‘Patriots’, which can and must effectively protect people’s lives here, in the Ukrainian skies. Thank you to everyone who is helping us," the President concluded.
