Over 20 interceptors in container: Rheinmetall unveils new anti-drone air defence system

German defence group Rheinmetall has signed a partnership agreement with Australia’s Praetorian Aeronautics to develop AERIE, a mobile air defence system for countering drones. The containerised launcher can hold more than 20 interceptors and be rapidly deployed.
This was reported by Rheinmetall’s press service, according to Censor.NET.
The system’s prototype was developed from the initial concept in just 12 months. AERIE is an autonomous C-UAS launcher that can use different types of interceptors.
Holds more than 20 interceptors
The system can hold more than 20 interceptors. It is housed in a standard shipping container, ensuring high mobility and rapid deployment.
The demonstrator is equipped with Praetorian Aeronautics’ Arrow interceptor and Hadrian command-and-control system. Both systems were designed and manufactured in Australia.
Arrow is an autonomous, high-speed and relatively low-cost interceptor designed to destroy various types of uncrewed systems beyond line of sight.
Uses AI
The Hadrian C2 system uses elements of artificial intelligence and is designed to control autonomous effectors across air, land, and maritime environments.
The developers intend AERIE to become an effective and cost-efficient solution for countering inexpensive drones. The system is designed for rapid deployment and reloading.
Full demonstrations of AERIE for potential operators are planned for the fourth quarter of 2026.
