I am ready to discuss issue of elections if US reaches agreement with Russia on complete ceasefire, - Zelenskyy
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has stated that he is prepared to discuss the elections if an agreement is reached on a complete ceasefire.
According to Censor.NET, the head of state made this statement during the Warsaw Security Forum.
What is known?
"At present, Russian attacks, as part of their new strategy, involve shelling every hour. Therefore, under such circumstances, it is impossible to hold elections.
So, of course, a ceasefire is needed – a complete ceasefire. And then, even though this is not possible under our current legislation, if there is a ceasefire and if the Americans reach such an agreement with the Russians, I am ready," the president said.
What led up to this?
- US President Donald Trump has stated that he believes it is time for Ukraine to elect a new leader who will be able to reach agreements to end the war.
- UK Defence Secretary Wes Streeting expressed his support for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy following the remarks by US President Donald Trump.
- The Kremlin also commented on Trump’s remarks.
- Meanwhile, Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine is ready to hold presidential elections if Russian dictator Vladimir Putin agrees to a 60-day ceasefire.
