Estonia to allocate another €10 million to purchase US weapons for Ukraine through PURL

Estonia plans to provide an additional €10 million to purchase US weapons for Ukraine under NATO’s PURL initiative. Together with previously allocated funds, the country’s total contribution to the mechanism will reach €31 million.
As reported by Censor.NET, Estonian Prime Minister Kristen Michal announced this during a meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, according to the Estonian government.
According to Michal, Tallinn has already provided Ukraine with €21 million through the PURL mechanism and will allocate another €10 million soon.
He stressed that Estonia continues to support Ukraine despite growing threats from Russia.
"This year, our military aid to Ukraine amounts to 0.28% of GDP. Last year, the figure was 0.35%. We have also provided Ukraine with €21 million under NATO’s PURL initiative and will soon allocate another €10 million to this mechanism," the prime minister said.
Michal urged other Alliance members to increase funding for the initiative, which enables Ukraine to receive US weapons funded by its partners.
He also drew attention to the intensification of Russian hybrid attacks and Moscow’s increasingly risky actions.
The Estonian prime minister believes Russia is using such actions to divert allies’ attention from helping Ukraine. At the same time, he assured that NATO countries would respond to threats jointly and continue supporting Kyiv.
Michal also stressed the importance of Ukraine’s combat experience for developing NATO countries’ defence capabilities and military industries.
According to him, Ukraine’s membership in the Alliance would provide the most reliable long-term guarantee of its security while also strengthening the allies themselves.
The Estonian prime minister stressed that strengthening NATO’s defence capabilities sends a signal to Russia that the Alliance is ready to defend its members.
