Updated field rations for the military

Ukrainian defenders on the front lines will receive updated field rations, developed based on the results of a survey conducted by "Army+." The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has approved the corresponding changes to the standards for daily field rations.

This was reported by the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, according to Censor.NET.

Who will receive the new field ration

An alternative field ration is intended for specific categories of service members of the Armed Forces and the State Special Transport Service who are participating in combat operations directly on the front lines.

It is noted that over 60,000 military personnel participated in a survey conducted by the DPA SLO via the "Army+" app, which ran from May 29 to June 12. They shared their preferences regarding the composition of the field rations, ready-to-eat meals, and additional items that help with nutrition in field conditions.

According to Mstyslav Banik, Ukraine’s Deputy Minister of Defense, the rations have become more comprehensive: more ready-to-eat meals and fewer small items.

The updated dry ration will not be a replacement, but rather an alternative to the daily field food ration—Norm No. 15.

What’s included in the alternative daily ration

The enhanced dry ration for defenders includes:

  • two separate meals instead of one daily field ration;
  • flame-less heaters;
  • ready-to-eat meals in retort pouches;
  • water purification tablets.

In addition to the meals, bottled drinking water will be provided at a rate of 1.5 liters per day, and from June 1 through September 1—3 liters.

"We’ve removed the crackers and added special flameless heaters, water purification tablets, as well as dried fruit, chocolate, and nuts. This has increased the caloric content by nearly 15%," Banik said.

The total calorie content of the first and second rations is 4,100 kcal. The difference in calorie content compared to standard dry rations is 600 kcal.
