Honcharenko: I discussed my peace plan with Americans

Oleksii Honcharenko, an unaffiliated member of the Verkhovna Rada who recently presented his so-called "peace plan," claims that he did not discuss it with Russian officials. Instead, he discussed it with U.S. officials who hold key positions and roles.
He made this statement in an interview with Censor.NET.
Details
When asked whether he had discussed his "peace plan" with representatives of the Russian Federation, Honcharenko replied, "God forbid."
"I communicate with people from the U.S. who hold positions of responsibility. And in my conversations with them, I understand that we need to move in roughly this direction. I discussed these ideas with them. And I saw understanding and support from them. But that doesn’t mean that the exact wording of my statement was approved by anyone there," he said.
Honcharenko refused to name the Americans with whom he discussed his ideas. Instead, he clarified that they are representatives of the Republican Party, whose main leader is U.S. President Donald Trump.
Background
- On October 2, Member of Parliament Oleksii Honcharenko spoke in favor of beginning negotiations with Russia, the first step of which should be an agreement to cease shelling of ports, businesses, schools, hospitals, residential areas, and bridges. In his view, the parties could then move on to more complex issues, particularly regarding the Donbas and Ukraine’s neutral status. The MP also emphasized that Ukraine must seek ways to end the war.
- President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, commenting on Honcharenko’s statements, said that Ukraine cannot "give in" to Russia, as this, in his words, would lead to its collapse.
- On October 5, the "European Solidarity" faction decided that it could no longer continue its political partnership with People’s Deputy Oleksii Honcharenko.
