Ukrainian Armed Forces hit Russian "Iskander" launcher. Russia preparing new ballistic missile strikes – Zelenskyy

Strike on Chernihiv on October 29

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said intelligence indicates that Russia is preparing new ballistic missile strikes and urged partners to accelerate sanctions targeting Russia’s ballistic missile programme and provide interceptors.

He said this in his evening address on 29 October following a meeting of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief’s Staff, Censor.NET reports.

Supreme Commander-in-Chief’s Staff: countering Russian ballistic missiles

"I held a meeting of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief’s Staff today. The key issue was countering Russian ballistic missiles. Sanctions pressure is insufficient; we need the packages from our partners that we discussed with them. And when it comes to key jurisdictions, sanctions can impose significant restrictions in practice, but not immediately — over time, sometimes requiring months of work. The longer sanctions packages targeting ballistic missiles are delayed, the longer Russia retains supply schemes for what it needs to produce them. Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry must accelerate this work with our partners," the president said.

Long-range sanctions and results

According to him, additional tasks were also set at the Supreme Commander-in-Chief’s Staff meeting for "long-range sanctions", which work much faster. Zelenskyy did not disclose details but noted that "everyone could see in recent weeks that Ukraine’s long-range capabilities deliver results".

  • He said the Staff was informed that two missile strikes had been carried out, two Russian Su-34s destroyed, and an "Iskander" launcher hit.

The Ukrainian Navy had earlier reported the destruction of two Su-34s at Marinovka airfield in the Volgograd region.

New ballistic missile strikes and the need for interceptors

"Another aspect of our efforts to counter ballistic missiles is packages of interceptors, primarily for ‘Patriot’ systems, that our partners can provide. They must be used to protect lives. We now have intelligence that the Russians are preparing new ballistic missile strikes. And we need the capabilities to shoot down all this Russian evil. We are waiting for the relevant decisions. I want to thank everyone who is truly helping us! Please, I ask you to take care of yourselves," Zelenskyy said.
