Lieutenant-colonel in Dnipropetrovsk region attempted to sell armoured vehicle and explosives for $8,000, - SBI. VIDEO

Law enforcement officers have prevented the sale of a BRDM-2 armoured vehicle and approximately 300 kg of explosives (in TNT equivalent) in the Dnipropetrovsk region; two suspects have been detained.

This was reported by the State Bureau of Investigation’s press service, according to Censor.NET.

Details

Among those detained is a former deputy commander of one of the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ mechanised brigades.

"The lieutenant-colonel unlawfully took possession of an armoured vehicle and concealed it on the premises of one of the units. He also planned to sell explosives.

Having found a potential buyer, the man agreed to sell the BRDM-2 together with the explosives for 8,000 US dollars. To conceal the armoured vehicle’s origin, the serial number was destroyed before the sale," the statement reads.

The lieutenant-colonel entrusted the handover of the military equipment to his accomplice.

During the night, the accomplice drove the armoured vehicle out of its hiding place and took it to a wooded area in the Dnipropetrovsk region. A special trailer was already waiting there to transport the vehicle.

However, the deal could not be completed. SBI officers arrested the intermediary whilst he was receiving $8,000. A BRDM-2 and explosives were also seized at the scene. Subsequently, the former deputy brigade commander was also arrested.

Both suspects have been charged with the theft of military property as part of a premeditated conspiracy by a group of individuals under martial law (Part 4 of Article 410 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

They face up to 15 years’ imprisonment. The issue of imposing preventive measures in the form of remand in custody is currently being considered.
