FSB agent detained in Odesa: former sailor guided enemy drones towards air defence positions, - SSU. PHOTO

The Security Service’s military counter-intelligence unit has detained another Russian agent in Odesa. He turned out to be a former merchant seaman who, after retiring, began collaborating with the FSB and was coordinating shelling of the port city.

This was reported by Censor.NET, citing the SSU press centre.

What information did he pass on to the enemy?

As the investigation revealed, the suspect was guiding the aggressor country’s jet-powered drones towards the combat positions of the Ukrainian air defence forces protecting the airspace of the regional centre.

SSU officers exposed the agent in good time and detained him at his place of residence. Defence Forces bases in the area of Russian espionage activity were also secured.

Details

According to the case file, the Russian special services recruited a former sailor after he was discharged from his ship. To persuade the man to cooperate, the FSB used an acquaintance of his – a former police officer from Odesa who had moved to russia.

To carry out the hostile mission, the agent cycled around the regional centre and its outskirts, secretly taking photographs and videos to document the locations of potential ‘targets’.

It has also been documented that the suspect repeatedly expressed his support for the Kremlin regime to those around him.

During searches, a video camera and a smartphone were seized from the detainee, which he had used to gather intelligence and maintain covert contacts with the FSB.

Charges

Investigators from the Security Service informed the agent that he was suspected of an offence under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (high treason committed under martial law).

The suspect is being held in custody without the right to bail. He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
