Ukraine is prepared not to strike oil refineries: Zelenskyy sets a condition

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has stated that Ukraine is prepared to refrain from striking Russian oil refineries for a month in exchange for the delivery of Patriot systems to Ukraine during that period.

He made this statement in an interview with Fox News, according to Censor.NET.

Details

"For one month, if you want us not to carry out strikes there, on the oil refineries, give me the ‘Patriots’ for one month," said the head of state.

According to Zelenskyy, Ukraine has had several discussions with President Trump and his team regarding strikes on oil refineries.

"We cannot fail to respond after Russian attacks on our energy infrastructure, after Russia kills our people and carries out attacks on our electricity, gas, oil refineries and so on.

We have said that if you want us not to attack Russian oil refineries, they must not attack our power grid," the president added.

What led up to this

  • It emerged yesterday that the US State Department had approved the potential sale of PAC-3 interceptor missiles for Patriot air defence systems to Ukraine. The total value of the contract, which is fully funded by Ukraine’s partners, stands at $2.1 billion.
  • President Volodymyr Zelenskyy welcomed the US State Department’s decision to authorise Ukraine to purchase 500 PAC-3 interceptor missiles for the Patriot systems. At the same time, he noted that deliveries under this contract are not scheduled to begin for several years.
  • According to media reports, Ukraine may receive 500 American PAC-3 MSE interceptor missiles for its Patriot systems only after 2030.
