54 per cent of Ukrainians do not believe that US will defend Ukraine in event of new attack by Russian Federation: they trust Europe more, - KIIS. PHOTO

More than half of Ukrainians doubt that the US will provide the necessary assistance to Ukraine in the event of a renewed Russian attack following a possible ceasefire. At the same time, they have considerably more confidence in the security guarantees offered by European countries.

This is according to the results of a survey by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology, as reported by Censor.NET.

The sociologists asked respondents to imagine a ceasefire along the current front line, under the terms of which the US and Europe would provide Ukraine with security guarantees.

According to the survey results, 54 per cent of Ukrainians do not believe that Washington will fulfil its obligations and help Ukraine in the event of a new Russian invasion. By contrast, 32 per cent are convinced that the US will provide the necessary support.

Sentiment is more optimistic regarding European allies: 56 per cent of those surveyed believe they will honour their security guarantees, whilst 38 per cent have doubts about this.

How Ukrainians assess support from the US and Europe

The majority of respondents – 69 per cent – believe that European countries continue to provide substantial assistance to Ukraine and are committed to ending the war on fair terms. At the same time, 25 per cent are convinced that Europe has grown weary of the war and wants to pressure Kyiv into making concessions to Moscow.

Assessments of US policy differ significantly. In particular, 61 per cent of Ukrainians believe that Washington has grown weary of the war and is putting pressure on Ukraine to make concessions to Russia.

Only 30 per cent of those surveyed are convinced that the US continues to help Ukraine as far as it is able and is seeking to achieve peace on terms acceptable to Kyiv.
