Russia directed three drones at substation important for Khmelnytskyi NPP’s operation – Shmyhal

Russia targets substation crucial to Khmelnytskyi nuclear plant

During a large-scale attack, Russian forces directed three drones at a substation important for the stable operation of the Khmelnytskyi Nuclear Power Plant.

First Deputy Prime Minister and Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal reported this on Facebook, according to Censor.NET.

Three drones near a key nuclear power plant facility

Shmyhal reported the attack during a meeting with ambassadors of the Group of Seven countries and the European Union. He briefed the diplomats on Russia’s large-scale attack on Ukraine.

According to him, Russian forces used 289 drones, 17 ballistic missiles and 59 cruise missiles in this attack. The main targets were energy facilities, including power plants and substations in electricity transmission and distribution systems.

"The enemy directed three drones at a substation critically important for the stable operation of the Khmelnytskyi Nuclear Power Plant. Such actions pose a threat not only to Ukraine but also to nuclear safety across Europe," Shmyhal said.

Ukraine expects a response from international partners

The minister said Ukraine had informed the International Atomic Energy Agency about the attack. He also stressed the need for an appropriate response from international partners to the intensification of Russian strikes on infrastructure supporting the operation of Ukrainian nuclear power plants.

One of the enemy’s largest attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure began overnight on 3 November and is still underway. Today’s attacks have further worsened the situation in the power system.
